DESOTO COUNTY GREENWAYS PROJECT
As I travel around Desoto County and Region, a number of people have posed the question, what is a Greenway? The best definition that I could find is the following: Greenways are protected corridors of land managed for resource conservation and/or recreational use. Why Greenways? Greenways and associated trails provide a venue for regular exercise which promotes good health. Greenways will improve quality of life, increase property values, enhance tourism and generate economic impact. According to the National Association of REALTORS, homes in communities with protected open space appreciate more and home sites in vicinity of parks and recreation areas are enhanced by 15-20%. Key community factors attracting new residents & businesses are open space amenities, access to outdoor recreation, clean environment and aesthetic appeal. Click here to read more...
