NAR Quadrennial Code of Ethics - Are you in Compliance?

The second NAR Quadrennial Ethics cycle will end on December 31, 2008. NAR requires that all REALTOR® and REALTOR-ASSOCIATE® members complete a Quadrennial Code of Ethics course once every four years. If you have not completed ethics training since January 1, 2005, you must do so prior to December 31, 2008.

Who Must Satisfy this requirement? All REALTORS® and REALTOR®-Associates regardless of area of specialty (residential, commercial, appraisal, property management, etc.)

 

What is the Deadline for completing the requirement? December 31, 2008.

 

What happens if a REALTOR does not satisfy the requirement? He will be suspended from membership for two months or until he satisfies the requirement, whichever is sooner. On March 1, 2009 if he still is not in compliance, then he will be terminated from membership.

 

I am grandfathered. Why do I have to do this? While some real estate licensees are grandfathered from having to take CE to maintain their real estate license, no REALTORS® or REALTOR®-Associates are grandfathered regarding NAR's Quadrennial ethics requirement.

 

Is this a MREC requirement?  No. This is a NAR requirement and can only affect your REALTOR or REALTOR-Associate membership rights and privileges, not your real estate license.
